Our founder, Max, has worked with blockchain from the early days. He has run an economics think tank founded by a member of Parliament from 2014 and did extensive work analysing the potential of blockchain technology, including organising the Blockchain Summit in the European Parliament in 2016 where he also gave the closing address; attendees included the IMF, World Bank, United Nations, OECD and Europol among others, as well as the Nasdaq stock exchange, central banks and several blockchain startups – it was the first event of its kind in any parliament worldwide.

With respect to publications, Max has written a number of important pieces: he wrote one of the first chapters in Springer Nature economics book, titled “Blockchain – The New Intellectual Battleground in Economics.” One of his essays on blockchain technology won a prize in the prestigious Mont Pelerin Society Young Scholar essay contest. He also wrote another paper jointly with a British member of Parliament on how Bitcoin and other private forms of money can free people from the current monetary system—this was also published in a book by Springer Nature, the most prestigious academic publisher in Europe.

The Blockchain Summit in the European Parliament

Max has given speeches on the future of money in many venues, including in the European Parliament, in central banks and at major events such as the Jackson Hole Summit in the US in 2015, which invited politicians and economists from around the world to each give a speech.

Speech in the Austrian Central Bank on the Future of Money

In the following speech, in the Austrian central bank, Max discussed how the emergence of hundreds of competing private currencies will impact the business cycle as they become more widely adopted.

Speech at the Jackson Hole Summit in 2015

The following speech was delivered at the Jackson Hole Summit in 2015; this was still quite early in crypto, and the ideas were novel to many attendees. This was speech was given in August – in the same month, Ethereum traded on exchanges for the first time, at $1 per Eth.
